A Winter Encounter
I nearly choked on my beer when he came in the door. It couldn’t possibly be him. Not the guy who… He looked scruffy, a little bleary-eyed, but it was definitely him. He paid me no mind but collapsed into the booth behind mine, barely fitting. He had dark glasses on and at least a week’s stubble on his strong chin. The waitress rushed over and flirted but he barely acknowledged her. Ordered something dark in a tall glass. He was a regular, it seemed. He took the glasses off and set them on the table, then rubbed his eyes with his big hands. The hands I was familiar with. The hands that had grabbed my shirt, yanking me out of danger, then pile driving me into the grass, while doing some kind of ninjutsu move that involved parkouring up a wall, then flipping and snapping the creature's neck. This was 2 years ago. My city had a minor outbreak, zombies, allegedly. I thought they were a gang of gay bashers coming to get me....
